ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: What is Christmas?
13 November, 2-4pm

You are invited to an informal round table discussion on the topic of Christmas. It is organised by Jasmine Picot-Chapman in the run up to her exhibition, A Gift Given in Feudal Fashion, taking place at Almanac this December 24, 25 & 26.

The project aims to use the practical means provided by the Christmas holiday (time) and the gallery (space) to proffer an opportunity to reclaim authorship over these shared resources. Practically, the work proposed by the artist is best understood as an infrastructure. It is made up of a physical construction with a framework for shared use. Other artists or interested persons are invited to use the work as guests and/or contributors to a programme of responses to the artist’s proposal.

Put simply: it is an exhibition taking place on Christmas day.

The discussion on Sunday, November 13, also functions as an open call inviting you to talk about your possible involvement; the project’s potential and limitations.

The exhibition will provide food, accommodation, company and occupation for visitors over three days. Hence practically we must also inventory what is needed for the gallery to welcome anyone who would like to attend. The round table aims to be as much of an informal, anecdotal sharing of experiences as an artistic interrogation of the proposed project and a theoretical discussion about Christmas.

Experts in, or anyone with an interest in discussing, Christmas alternatives and projects of this kind (failed or successful) are welcome. Artists curious about the open call and anyone simply looking for something to do on 25 December are more than welcome.

The project is not religious in nature however religious contributions are welcomed and valuable to both the discussion and exhibition.

For more information, to RSVP, or if you wish to contribute but cannot attend, email info@almanacprojects.com.
You can contact Jasmine directly at jrpicotchapman@gmail.com.

There will be a hot lunch and refreshments (both vegan and GF). Silent attendance is welcome.

We’re sorry there is no wheelchair access to the venue but contact us and we’ll endeavour to accommodate you. If you wish to attend but cannot due to travel costs similarly, we will try our best to get you here.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: What is Christmas?
13 November, 2-4pm

You are invited to take part in a friendly discussion about alternative ways of spending 25 December, or Christmas day. The discussion takes place on Sunday 13 November, 2-4pm at the project space/art gallery, Almanac in Bermondsey. It is organised by Jasmine Picot-Chapman, an artist who is putting on an art exhibition at Almanac on 24, 25 and 26 December this year.

Jasmine will build a structure in the gallery and within this there will be a programme of artworks by other artists taking place over three days. The project aims to try out different ways of using the time off provided by the holiday and the gallery space together.

If you would like to be included in the exhibition as a contributor or if you would like to spend all or part of 24, 25 or 26 of December at the exhibition then please join us for the discussion. We will talk about what is needed to make as many different people welcome as possible. The exhibition will provide food, company and a place to be, as well as art to enjoy, so we must think about everything from your politics or religion to your dietary requirements. As well as provide information on ways you could contribute your ideas as an artist or in any other way.

The discussion is open to anyone interested in talking about how to do Christmas day differently or better... If you do not celebrate or are looking for something to do on 25 December we want to hear what you have to say.

The project is not of a religious nature but religious contributions and people are welcome.

Please email info@almanacprojects.com to say if you would like to come to the discussion or to learn more about the exhibition. You are welcome to come and listen to the discussion without joining in.
You can contact Jasmine directly at jrpicotchapman@gmail.com.

There will be hot food to eat while we talk. Vegan and gluten free options.

We’re sorry that there is no wheelchair access but contact us and we’ll work something out. If you wish to attend but cannot because of the cost of travelling to Almanac you can email us and we’ll try to cover your train/bus ticket so you can join the discussion.
