Sound Stories from the Former Zoo02—03 May 2025
Turin
at Parco Michelotti
How can sound help us rethink the relationship between humans and animals?
Can audio become a tool to build spatial narratives from multispecies perspectives?
Sound Stories from the Former Zoo is a workshop led by artist and researcher Marta Bogdanska in collaboration with sound artist Grosso Bernardo.
Places are limited. To register email to info@almanacprojects.com by 30 April.
The workshop will be held in English.
The initiative invites participants to explore the potential of sound as a way to tell stories differently—shaping narratives that consider animal presences, invisible traces, and the relational ecologies that have passed through and still inhabit the former zoo.
Through practices of active listening, field recording, and sonic experimentation, the workshop proposes a rediscovery of the former Turin Zoo—active until the 1980s in the area now known as Parco Michelotti—from an acoustic and sensory point of view.
Over the course of two days, participants will explore the site and its layered histories, collecting audio materials and delving into animal resistance stories and local micro-narratives. These elements will form the basis for imaginative exercises and the creation of short collective sound stories, developed through shared tools and methodologies.
The workshop will take place on Friday, May 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, May 3 from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, across Parco Michelotti.
Participation is free and open to people interested in sound, political ecology, urban memory, and multispecies relations—no prior technical experience is required.
The initiative is part of curator Ginevra Ludovici’s research project on the difficult heritage of the Anthropocene, starting from two symbolic sites in the city: the former zoo and the Botanical Garden of Turin. The project is commissioned by Almanac.
Almanac is supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondazione CRT and Regione Piemonte.
