Elisa Barrera
Same Feeling01—07 March 2018
Opening: 28 February, 7pm
ground floor
Same Feeling by Hamburg based artist Elisa Barrera is the first project of a new programme at ALMANAC INN presenting the recent research and works of emerging Italian artists.
Barrera’s work looks at the spatial and perceptive dynamics that frame the relation between imaginary and real. Reflecting on the nature of images, their production and circulation, her research investigates the feelings embedded in the virtual and its projections of a subject.
The installation explores the notions of familiarity and intimacy in relation to representation and architecture. The lighting is dimmed, the space altered. Its elements changed or denied, turned hostile, defining a new environment, which imposes us to face the consistency of our inner self.
The works presented question the truthfulness and integrity of an image. Recognizable shapes and pictures that we find in our everyday life appear in the space. Intimate but universal at the same time. Unique and generic. A romanticism that reaches the viewer’s memories. The virtual connotation of these images extends our sight to somewhere we are not present - a new, subjective, filtered reality, which shapes our identity.
I spend a lot of time thinking about changing the world through passion,
inspiration and trickery… Thinking about the structure of reality, systems and mechanisms,
both in physical and psychological terms.
So far I didn’t give up.
I am pretty intellectually and physically pugnacious, very protective of my friends… a passionate human being on a life-long hunt, looking for centaurs and mermaids who are similar to me.
Western culture seems to forge people that are valueless and inane. Mainly people build themselves on constructed attitudes rather than being truly curious or show weakness.
Friday nights normally I am working or in wilderness, which I retain an undying love for.
Parties with good friends are always glue to me, otherwise entertainment is less entertaining than working.
What people call fun, doesn’t have so much appeal to me.
Meditation is something really similar to that state between sleep and wakefulness.
Good to open up new perspectives on reality…
I am a really playful, educated person, spirited and non-conformist.
Non conformism not as the adoption of some pre-existing alternative subculture, but innate class as well as inner strength.
… I continuously try to think strategically about the world and people I care about.
Isn’t this what really matter?
I seek people with innate perceptiveness and spunk.
Get in touch with me…
