On Telluric Cosmologies
09 November—30 March 2025
Turin
A collaboration between Almanac, Castello di Rivoli, Orti Generali
Vibrant Natures. On Telluric Cosmologies is a project developed by Almanac, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, and Orti Generali, curated by Guido Santandrea and Marianna Vecellio, with the curatorial assistance of Filippo Berta for Almanac and the contribution of Aurora Riviezzo, coordinator of the collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Design at the Politecnico di Torino. It continues the reflection initiated in the first chapter, On Decay and Rebirth, which took place between February and March 2024, maintaining a research base rooted in the complexity, plurality, coexistence, and reciprocity inherent in nature.
The program aims to foster ecological thinking and environmental awareness that repositions humans as part of nature itself. This urgency is grounded in resistance politics against exploitative economies that seek to overcome the opposition of subject/object, nature/culture, human/non-human, and the consequent legitimization of power and dominance.
Offering a redefinition of the concept of “nature,” understood as an active and “vital” agent, Vibrant Natures. On Telluric Cosmologies explores how artists and researchers from different fields and according to different narratives such as scientific, cultural, historical, reflect on the possibility of action and influence of non-human entities as “material subjects that act and are acted upon”: as described by Federico Luisetti, one of the program’s guests.
Vibrant Natures. On Telluric Cosmologies is based on a transdisciplinary dialogue between artists and researchers and unfolds through workshops, theoretical insights, and artistic productions across the various venues of the partners involved. Redefining the boundaries of subjectivity and recognizing the agency of non-human entities are necessary conditions for addressing and questioning the conditions and assumptions that have led to the current climate and environmental crisis.
Participants include: An Tairan, Maria Thereza Alves, Enrico Caprio, Caretto/Spagna, Giulia Damiani, Derek MF Di Fabio, Federico Luisetti, Timothy Morton, New Pessimism Studio, Precious Okoyomon, Riar Rizaldi, Natsuko Uchino.
